Roswell SeniorNet Volunteer Meeting

March 27, 2007 10:00 am

In the absence of President Don Hogan, and Vice President John Szedon, the volunteer meeting was presided over by Secretary, Howard Goldmacher.  Seniornet member Joan Pomeroy was kind enough to record the minutes.  The meeting was called to order at 10:00 am.

Approval of the January Volunteer Meeting minutes were approved without modification.

Volunteers: There are seven new volunteers for the Roswell Seniornet organization although only three were present. Their participation was welcomed.

Treasurer’s report: Larry Campbell reported at the Executive Committee meeting last week that the balance in our treasury stands at $18,392.55 with $10,000 in a high interest CD and the balance in the organization’s check book. Roswell SeniorNet is in sound financial shape.

Spring Registration: Registration for the spring session is proceeding well with 67 enrollees. We anticipate an increase in enrollment with what has become a last minute spurt of registrations.

Course Coordinator and SeniorNet open position opportunities:

Course coordinators are needed for the Ebay and Family Tree Maker courses. Emory Reese would be happy to provide guidance to anyone interested in taking over Family Tree Maker.

Additionally, the position of Publicity Coordinator is currently unfilled due to Fred Wooten returning to full time employment.  Fred has done a commendable job with the efforts of that position.

Summer Course Catalogs: Summer catalogs are out with but one error. The Graphics class is erroneously listed as being on Monday.  The proper day is Wednesday and the office staff is informing potential callers of the error and the appropriate class day.

SeniorNet Membership: Students are no longer required to join the National Seniornet Organization when they sign up for a class.  They may join if they wish to avail themselves of the benefits of the organization for a first year fee of $30 with subsequent renewals of $15 per year.  Forms are available at the Adult Recreation Center office.

Coordinator Reports:

Julia Fogel: Curriculum

Julia offered the possibility of a number of new course options which are actively being considered to keep our offerings in tune with requests from potential enrollees: Efforts are currently underway for future courses covering;

                  Digital Camera Workshop        MS PowerPoint            Memoir Workshop

                  Advanced Excel course            Google Search Engine Workshop

Volunteers will be needed to fill the positions of Instructors and course coordinators.

Julia thanked everyone for the prompt return of the course feedback forms and further suggested that we offer students the opportunity to sign up for the next session classes instead of waiting.

George Fuller: Course Manuals/Course signs

Manuals for the spring courses are in the cabinets along with “sign out” sheets intended to reduce/eliminate unauthorized distribution.  Additional copies of the Quicken 2006 manuals were ordered and will be available for the course start.  Course coordinators are responsible for reviewing older manuals located in the third drawer of the locked cabinet and for discarding those no longer required.  Anyone finding an error in any of the manuals should report same to the respective course coordinator.

George mentioned that the alcove signs need to be changed to allow users to know which computer has to be on in order for the printer to work.

John Szedon: Computer Lab Report

Details of the number of students attending the winter lab sessions are included in the Executive Committee minutes Addendum. On average attendance was approximately 6.25 students per week.

John Rittenburg: Course staffing

John reports that all courses for Spring 2007 are fully staffed.

 Bob Nelson: Disks and Badges

All requirements have been met

With no further business, motion to adjourn was made by John Rittenburg and seconded by Emory Reese at 11:30 am.

Respectfully submitted by;

Secretary, Howard K. Goldmacher and

Acting Secretary, Joan Pomeroy
